Our recent Guest Artist in Residence Emma Parker will share her techniques for handbuilding an expressive bust from a basic cylinder.
You will explore slab building with a porcelain body, slab manipulation and relief modelling to create you own expressive face. Each student will receive a bag of Keane’s Lumina Porcelain clay to use and take home, and each piece will be glazed and fired by NPS for collection a few weeks later.
The cost of this course includes access to clay, all materials and tools required, and the firing and glazing of your work.
This session does not include a lunch break. You are welcome to bring along lunch, snack or water bottle to have during the class.
Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Emma JV Parker is sculptor in clay and a visual arts teacher based in Melbourne, Australia. She has worked in the education sector for over 15 years at Eton College, UK and more recently Scotch College in Melbourne. Emma’s work seeks to elevate the mundane and spark awareness of the preciousness of fleeting moments. The approach to her chosen medium is unique, presenting graphic, hand painted elements imposed upon a sculpted form. Parker’s work celebrates the understated moments of ordinary routines.
